Yoast-like SEO plugin for Blogger?

#1

SEO by Yoast is probably one of the most popular SEO plugins for WordPress blogs. It offers nice SEO analysis inside the post editor that helps with setting the SEO right for a post. Is there any similar plugin for Blogger? The Blogger post editor is very deficient when it comes to SEO settings. Does anyone else feel the need to have a Yoast-like SEO plugin for Blogger?

That is surely a fair wishlist. Yoast is the best Wordpress SEO plugin so far and really helps to make your blog search friendly with those several features that help you better optimize images, posts, pages and structure of your blog.

However Blogger did made some major changes to blogspot blog’s SEO like introducing Search Preferences that help you create:

  1. custom redirects i.e. 301 redirects,
  2. 404 error pages,
  3. robots.txt
  4. Robots Header tags that adds a X-Robots-Tag header tag in the HTTP response.

Blogger has also enabled custom permalinks and meta description functionality for each post. It has covered almost 80% of what YOAST does so not bad. What it lacks yet is the ability to create custom sitemap files for blogger which must be hosted at root/sitemap.xml.

Point to Note:

The only Blogger blog which has a custom sitemap.xml file is http://buzz.blogger.com/sitemap.xml and I don’t know why blogger has not yet allowed this feature to all users.

The sitemap file at buzz blogger is well formatted pointing to two sitemap chunks as shown below:

<?xml version='1.0' encoding='UTF-8'?>
<sitemapindex xmlns="http://www.sitemaps.org/schemas/sitemap/0.9"><sitemap><loc>http://buzz.blogger.com/sitemap.xml?page=1</loc></sitemap><sitemap><loc>http://buzz.blogger.com/sitemap.xml?page=2</loc></sitemap></sitemapindex>

How to Create and Host sitemap.xml file in Blogger?

Hi @qasimzaib

You have an interesting question. Talking about SEO by Yoast, I have been guest author on certain WordPress blogs and have used it. I must agree to you that it is the simplest plug-in which handles all the SEO work without giving user any complex work to do. So yeah, I too feel the need to have a Yoast-like SEO plugin for Blogger. It will surely give Blogger powered blogs a great boost.

I have a question @Mohammad, Even tho I enter a unique meta description for my blog posts, I see some other description on the search engine. It mainly shows the first line of my posts and not the description which I entered.

Can you please suggest a solution for this issue?

Thank you.

Buddy the description snippet shown on SERPS is often dynamically ripped from your content which best matches the user query

Google will show the exact meta description when either the user types your full post title or the URL itself

However I do advise that you read my post on duplicate meta description and try to see if you have activated search description option and have enclosed it inside conditional statements to prevent the duplicate description issue between blog and blog posts

Blogger sitemap Include all the URL that you posted, but when you rechaed 500 post, then Blogger sitemap automatically convert into

http:// www. mybloggertricks.com/ sitemap.xml?page=1 http:// www. mybloggertricks.com/sitemap.xml?page=2 http:// www. mybloggertricks.com/sitemap.xml?page=3

Like this.

I don’t think Yoast is 100% SEO powerful tool, Just focus in custom permalinks, title of blog post , and few keywords in your post. Many of Google employer using blogger platforms, and they always on first page of Google, because everybody mention their site.

Don’t focus on On-page SEO. Because Google and users both like to easy and understandably content on web. Only Focus On Off-page SEO with genuine technique/whitehat.
